1/15/15. A series of recent, seemingly unrelated events resulted in the creation and naming of this ribbon. A grant I got to study advanced braiding required a community project. I did two: demonstrated at an Oktoberfest and braided bracelets for graduates of a program at an equine therapy center from the hair of the horse to which each was assigned. Soon after making a bracelet, a dear therapy horse suffered a sudden onset of cancer and was euthanized. The remnant of braid left over was not long enough to make another bracelet. So I used a bow from the dog grooming/boarding business where I work part time to make this ribbon. At first I called it an Equine Cancer Awareness Ribbon. I changed the name when an Oktoberfest client ordered a necklace and mentioned she was a cancer survivor.
