My first 9-ply flat braid made into a bookmark. I found the pattern on, of all places, a bread baking website! Figuring out how to bind the braid was a challenge–I haven’t mastered sewing with horse hair and neither embroidery nor waxed linen thread worked. Regular polyester thread finally saved the day. The black band looked nice but I ultimately decided to cover it with sequins for a little embellishment. I found the sequins in the sewing machine I’d inherited from one of my grandmothers–in a yellowing cardboard package stamped 39⊄.
